New York Governor announces reforms for state highway projects

  ALBANY, N.Y. — New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced new reforms designed to keep state highway construction projects on budget and on time. These changes come after a series of recommendations from an independent review, ordered by the Governor, of delays and cost over-runs which have affected I-287 in Westchester for over a decade.

Voters support transit ballot measures

 WASHINGTON, D.C. — Voters on Nov. 8 approved pro-transit ballot initiatives in Durham, N.C., and Vancouver, Wash., while defeating one anti-transit measure in Cincinnati, Ohio. A statewide initiative in Washington State that would have placed stricter restrictions on tolls and prevent use of funds for public transit also failed.

TxDOT submits grant applications for rail and highway projects

 AUSTIN, TEXAS — The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) submitted four applications to the U.S. Department of Transportation, requesting more than $93.8 million in federal TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) discretionary grant money to advance rail and highway projects across the state.

AASHTO app now available on Android OS devices

 WASHINGTON, D.C. — The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials announced that the AASHTO Mobile app is now available for Android-powered mobile devices. AASHTO Mobile, which debuted as an iPhone app in June, features real-time traffic conditions powered by INRIX, a provider of traffic information and driving services to leading automakers, navigation providers, and transportation agencies around the world. The app also features optimized versions of two popular transportation news sites: the Daily Transportation Update and the AASHTO Journal, a weekly news report.

Report makes case for business investment in public transportation

  NEW ORLEANS, LA. — The American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) released an updated report making the case for investment in the public transportation industry by detailing the enormous growth in ridership, service provided, and funding levels. The report, “The Case for Business Investment in Public Transportation,” reinforces that there has been a steady growth trend over the past three decades and it is now a $55 billion industry. The data in this report point to an even more prominent future standing.
