The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), AAA, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce have announced that the Missouri Department of Transportation's (DOT) I-64 St. Louis Project was selected as the 2010 America's Transportation Awards Grand Prize winner. The Mississippi DOT’s Laurel S-Curve Reconstruction Project won the People's Choice Award.
Construction has begun on an effort to improve and raise Highway 141 and Ladue Road in Missouri above flooding level. Part of this $55 million project includes paving a section of Highway 141 with concrete that captures pollution and ultraviolet light from the sun and breaks it down into harmless smog-fighting chemicals.
Forty-two capital construction projects and 33 planning projects in 40 states will share nearly $600 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) II program for major infrastructure projects ranging from highways and bridges to transit, rail, and ports, U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced.
