NEWARK, N.J. — Michael Baker Jr., Inc., a unit of Michael Baker Corporation, was awarded a $1 million contract from the city of Newark, N.J., to make improvements to Delancy Street, a 1.1-mile roadway and drainage improvement project in the southeastern section of the Newark business district. Baker is the primary consultant providing roadway design, drainage design, utility coordination and design, lighting design, geotechnical and pavement design, permits, maintenance and protection of traffic.
AUSTIN, TEXAS — Central Dallas will soon get a much-needed makeover as the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) moves forward with a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the Horseshoe Project. TxDOT hopes to use a design-build approach to develop the critical transportation project located in the heart of downtown Dallas.
MADISON, WIS. — Michael Baker Jr., Inc., a unit of Michael Baker Corporation, announced that the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) awarded the company a preliminary design contract of $8.8 million for the improvement and reconstruction of the Daniel Hoan Bridge and the I-794 Freeway. Design services include structures, roadway, traffic, surveys, public involvement, environmental, geotechnical, and lighting. Anticipated duration for preliminary design is approximately eight months.
RICHMOND, VA. — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Fluor-Transurban reached an in-principle agreement on the major commercial terms to build the I-95 High Occupancy Vehicle/High Occupancy Toll (HOV/HOT) Lanes Project in Northern Virginia. Agreement on the commercial terms means both parties have established the major tenets of a contract. This step forward enables VDOT and Fluor-Transurban to finalize the details of a comprehensive agreement and financing package for the $940 million project.
ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Transportation selected the LPA Group Inc. (LPA), a unit of Michael Baker Corporation, as the lead designer for design and construction of the Jimmy Deloach Connector in Chatham County, Ga. LPA is teamed with Archer Western Contractors, Ltd., to deliver this $72.7 million design-build project. LPA’s design fee is approximately $4.5 million.
