RADIO: Autodesk applies 'Hollywood-touch' to project plans
"The big change that happened with the stimulus money — that has never happened before — was they injected that money and they had jobs on the shelf, which all states do. So these jobs came off the shelf, but they may have been designed ten years ago," said David Fagerman, transportation specialist with Autodesk, in this NPR report about how the $2.3-billion company turns old, 700-page plans into "tidy digital blueprints." Pro Publica: Top 10 road projects funded by stimulus package
California leads the way in allocation of top-dollar road projects according to this report by ProPublica.com's Michael Grabell. Five of the top ten projects (based on money obligated from the Recovery Act) are owned by The Golden State. The story also includes a link to a list provided by the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee that shows details on 5,800 infrastructure projects.

The National Infrastructure Development Bank Act of 2009
"If the U.S. is to have any hope of getting its economic act together over the next few years, there will have to be a much greater focus on putting people back to work. Rebuilding the infrastructure is the place to start," writes New York Times Columnist Bob Herbert on May 26, in response to the prospect of a national infrastructure development bank that would dedicate public and private money to essential infrastructure projects. Such a bank was proposed Wednesday, May 20, by Reps. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), and Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.). According to a report by Isaiah J. Poole with Campaign for America's Future, the bank would “provide financing for projects that have regional or national impact, such as high-speed rail, interstate highways or major water projects.” Poole added that the bank would receive a meager yearly allotment of $5 billion, but it would also have access to capital from the U.S. Treasury.
