DURHAM, N.H. — Fifteen civil engineering students from the University of New Hampshire (UNH) won the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Northeast regional Steel Bridge Competition, defeating 13 other teams, including Boston-based competitors from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Wentworth Institute of Technology, and Northeastern University. Winning the competition, which was in Quebec City, Canada, in April, earned the UNH team a spot at the national competition at Texas A&M May 21, 2011.

ST. LOUIS — For the past five years, Missouri's state highway construction program has averaged $1.2 billion a year. The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) presented a new, five-year construction program to the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission that's only half that amount — about $600 million a year. WASHINGTON, D.C. — The United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) released a 176-city survey focusing on local transportation infrastructure investments at the National Press Club. Atlanta (GA) Mayor Kasim Reed, USCM Transportation Committee Chair, delivered the survey findings. Given the economic problems facing the nation, mayors believe it is more important than ever that federal transportation priorities be targeted to metropolitan areas — home to two-thirds of U.S. residents.
OLATHE, KAN. — At the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) conference in Kansas City, Mo., March 28-30, Terracon set up a live video set with industry leaders discussing the latest in innovation in transportation. Discussion topics included specific issues in the industry, how innovative practices are changing the landscape, and the way we do business and how companies are adapting to meet the changing demands in transportation.
