Seven winners have been named in Portland Cement Association’s (PCA) Twelfth Biennial Bridge Awards Competition. The competition, instituted in 1988, recognizes excellence in design and construction of concrete bridges. The 2010 program attracted 38 entries from Canada and the United States, covering a variety of structure types and construction methods. All structures were essentially completed between April 2008 and September 2009. The winners were recognized at the 2010 Concrete Bridge Conference on Feb. 25 in Phoenix, Ariz. The Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI) announced the winners of its biennial 2010 CRSI Design Awards program. For more than 37 years, the CRSI Design Awards program has honored excellence in reinforced concrete structures and acknowledged their designers. The CRSI Design Awards program is open to architects, engineers, contractors and fabricators — entrants may be individuals or teams. Old pieces of a Washington state floating bridge will be disbanded this month for use in a waterfront development in Canada. The refurbished pontoons from the bridge will be used to hold up a public pier in a marina in Sidney.
