WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S Department of Transportation will provide more than $215 million to states across the nation to cover the costs of repairing roads and bridges damaged by a variety of natural disasters, U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announced. Among states that will receive funding, California will receive $43.4 million for flooding and earthquakes, North Dakota will receive $31.5 million for flooding in the Devil's Lake region and Vermont will receive $15.4 million for flooding and damage from Tropical Storm Irene.
LOUISVILLE, KY. — An updated environmental review recommends a cost-saving approach for building two new bridges across the Ohio River and rebuilding the downtown Louisville interchange — setting the stage for construction to begin next year.
OURAY COUNTY, COLO. — The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and contractor American Civil Constructors Inc. (ACC) completed construction on the new Bear Creek Bridge on US 550 over Red Mountain Pass — one of Colorado’s more historical high-mountain passes. The work has wrapped up on schedule, just prior to winter weather hitting the area.
ORANGE COUNTY, CALIF. — Drivers stuck at rail crossings in north Orange County will soon find relief as the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) kicks off a nearly $600 million program that will separate street traffic from trains at seven locations. Known as the O.C. Bridges Program, OCTA is working to improve traffic flow and safety at seven crossings along the Burlington North Santa Fe rail line in Anaheim, Fullerton and Placentia by building a series of bridges — both underpasses and overpasses — to separate car traffic from trains.
