The Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) National Bridge Conference offers a unique opportunity to gain knowledge, share information, and make connections with thousands of professionals from around the world. This year's conference will focus on strategies for adapting and thriving in today's market through relevant programs and forums.
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is co-sponsoring the conference, which will again take place concurrently with PCI's 55th Annual Convention, Sept. 12-15, 2009, in San Antonio, Texas. Attendees can expect to network with manufacturers and erectors, industry suppliers, DOT and federal highway representatives, engineers, architects, academics, and international experts.
Conference highlights The conference kicks off Sunday, Sept. 13, with the PCI Awards Ceremony, presenting special awards to industry honorees. Following the ceremony, the PCI Bridge Design Awards will recognize designers of exceptional transportation projects. Sunday continues with exhibits, education sessions, and networking events that continue through Monday and Tuesday.
The conference concludes Tuesday evening with the Design Awards Banquet, which will recognize design excellence and construction quality involving precast concrete. Three special categories — the Harry H. Edwards Industry Award, the All-Precast Solution Award, and the Sustainable Design Award — will be presented, in addition to the other categories.
Presentations, workshops, and seminars PCI's conference is dedicated to fostering a greater understanding of the design and use of precast and prestressed concrete. With more than 40 education sessions, featuring more than 60 papers on technical and bridge design/construction, there will be something for everyone. Education tracks include: business development, technical/research, sustainability, architectural, operations, and bridges. Also, new session topics were added to address the economic downturn, including: business planning, legal rights, economic stimulus, credit approval, financial management, and lean manufacturing.
Exhibits PCI's exhibit hall will feature more than 100 suppliers showcasing the latest innovations, products, and services. A special section of the exhibit floor — called the Bridge Pavilion — is set aside for bridge-related exhibitors. The Bridge Pavilion will include the FHWA and the Washington State Department of Transportation (this year's featured "spotlight" state). In addition, daily luncheons on the exhibit floor will provide a chance to establish new contacts.
