What’s a Bubbleator?

The Oregon Department of Transportation is busy these days, and its work on the I-5 Willamette River Bridge — ODOT’s largest bridge replacement to date — is the subject of an ongoing series on RAI’s partner website, HubDOT.net. During the last few months, we’ve published two HubDOT Exclusives about the project, and the latest story, “Calling an audible: demolishing Oregon’s Willamette River Bridge” is now live on the site. This technical feature looks at the demolition of the bridge, and the complementary slideshow includes shots of a special “brightly colored device” called the Bubbleator. What does it do? Visit HubDOT.net to find out!

ALSO: For those of you interested in putting your specialized skills to work to help the rebuilding effort in Haiti, please explore the special section, “Engineering Relief for Haiti,” on all of our websites. Here you’ll find resources, links, and letters from engineers in the field.
