Nondestructive pavement evaluation
Infrasense Inc. provides a solution for detecting unseen "at-risk" conditions in roadways that have experienced events such as flooding. Using nondestructive evaluation techniques such as ground penetrating radar, Infrasense engineers can detect inhomogeneities in the pavement base course that indicate areas of road at risk of damage. Surveys are conducted using vehicle-based antenna systems that are operated at driving speeds, precluding lane closures and traffic backups.

Wheel tracker for pavement testing
IPC Global launched an Asphalt Unbound Slab-compactor and WheelTRACKer (AUSTRACK) combination extra-large/large wheel tracker/slab compactor. According to the company, AUSTRACK allows close to full-scale wheel tracking performance tests on asphalt and unbound granular material on 700-mm (27.5 –inch) by 500-mm (19.7-inch) specimens as thick as 300 mm (11.8 inches). The device features automated, laser rut depth measurement.

Upgraded scanner control
Leica Geosystems announced onboard and handheld scanner control V2.6 firmware that allows users to take advantage of workflow options and field QA tools that had previously only been available when controlling ScanStation C10 and C5 scanners using Leica Cyclone-SCAN software on a laptop. Using a wireless handheld control, such as an iPad, users have full remote control of the scanner. The new firmware leverages ScanStation C10 and C5's "continuously upgradeable" system architecture.
