The Rebuilding America's Infrastructure team welcomes Terry D. Bennett, Ron Gant, Dan McNichol, and Samuel I. Schwartz to our editorial board. As founding members, each will help us navigate the changing industry, ensuring that we provide the smart and timely content you need to strengthen and grow your business. From journalistic know-how to technological expertise, each member offers an invaluable perspective that will influence the content in the magazine and on the website.
TERRY D. BENNETT Terry D. Bennett, P.L.S., LLS, LPF, LEED AP, is the senior industry manager for civil engineering and construction at Autodesk, Inc., and holds worldwide responsibility for the company's industry strategy and relations in the areas of land/environmental planning, land surveying, civil engineering, and heavy construction. Over the last 23 years, he has presented at numerous industry conferences worldwide and published many articles in industry trade magazines on the impact of technology and sustainable approaches to the AEC and geospatial industries. Bennett has also been a practicing professional for the last 26 years and was a company manager and lead designer for a civil engineering, geotechnical, and land surveying firm. He holds multi-state registration in both land surveying and natural resource forest management, and is also a LEED Accredited Professional in Sustainable Design approaches.
RON GANT Ron Gant, P.E., currently serves as global marketing director for civil engineering at Bentley Systems. Gant is a registered professional engineer in the state of Texas. He worked in the electric utility industry for 13 years as a design and construction engineer on major fossil and nuclear projects. He was employed by Intergraph Corporation in 1990 and moved to Bentley when the company acquired the civil and plotting products from Intergraph in 2000. Gant has been involved with the Bentley Civil products for 19 years in various capacities, managing technical, marketing, and sales organizations.
DAN McNICHOL Dan McNichol is the author of The Roads That Built America: The Incredible Story of the U.S. Interstate System. In 2003, the American Society of Civil Engineers named him as one of the nation's outstanding journalists. His articles and work have appeared in The New York Times, USA Today, The Boston Globe, and many other periodicals. When not working as our resident Signs columnist, McNichol travels the world speaking about the triumphs and challenges of engineering and construction while continuing his other writing projects.
SAMUEL I. SCHWARTZ Samuel I. Schwartz, P.E., is president and CEO of Sam Schwartz Engineering, an 80-person, $11 million multi-disciplinary consulting firm specializing in traffic and transportation engineering. The firm is headquartered in New York and has offices in Chicago; Washington, D.C.; Tampa Bay, Fla.; Newark, N.J.; and Windsor-Detroit. Schwartz, a former New York City Traffic Commissioner and cabdriver, was named in June as one of six CRAIN's NY Top Entrepreneurs 2009. He also received the 2009 Engineer of the Year Award from the New York Society of Professional Engineers. Schwartz's claim to fame was the coining of the word "gridlock," and he pens a newspaper column, Gridlock Sam, in the NY Daily News.
