RIDOT chief engineer appointed to AASHTO Highway Traffic Safety committee

LINCOLN, R.I. — Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) Chief Engineer Kazem Farhoumand, P.E., of Lincoln, R.I., has been appointed to the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Standing Committee on Highway Traffic Safety for a four-year term.

“I am honored to have been chosen to serve on this committee whose focus is to help reduce crash injuries and fatalities on our highways,” Farhoumand said. “We have made many accomplishments in the area of traffic and pedestrian safety. This will be a great opportunity to share our successes with this national group and try to learn about the latest strategies and technologies.”

The committee whose members are appointed by the president of AASHTO is responsible for supporting programs that help reduce highway-related crashes. Members are also charged with following national trends and circumstances by interacting with other highway safety organizations to determine highway safety influences and propose appropriate action.
