PORTLAND, ORE. — Multnomah County has selected local engineering firm David Evans and Associates, Inc. (DEA) instead of out-of-town consultants as the owner’s representative to lead the replacement of the Sellwood Bridge in Southeast Portland.
Primary elements of this $330 million project include replacement of the aging bridge and construction of a new interchange along OR Highway 43 at the west end of the bridge. DEA will partner with the county in selecting a bridge designer for the final design as well as a construction contractor and oversee and independently review roadway and bridge designs and provide quality assurance during construction.
“We are very excited to have the opportunity to continue working with Multnomah County,” said DEA President Al Barkouli. “This project is critical to the mobility of residents of our region. Our competition was formidable and we are honored to have been selected. We are thrilled to have our local staff working on such important and interesting work.”
DEA has 19 offices in seven states and employs more than 650 people. Since its founding in 1976 in Portland, Ore., DEA has become a recognized leader for progressive and sustainable design and management solutions for complex transportation, land development, energy, and water projects nationwide. DEA’s staff includes professional engineers, surveyors, planners, landscape architects, and natural resources scientists. DEA is an employee-owned corporation and consistently ranks among ENR’s Top 100 Pure Design firms in the U.S.
