FDOT Selects HDR as lead design firm for U.S. 19 reconstruction

TAMPA, FLA. — The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) selected HDR as the lead design firm for reconstruction of 1.21 miles of U.S. 19 in Pinellas County. HDR will design a modified single-point urban interchange at Curlew Road to replace the existing at-grade signalized intersection. U.S. 19 will be reconstructed from an eight-lane divided arterial to a six-lane controlled access roadway with frontage roads. Project limits are from Northside Drive to County Road 95.

The project is a continuation of improvements to the U.S. 19 corridor that will enhance public safety and mobility. The most heavily traveled north/south corridor in Pinellas County, U.S. 19 is critical to the region’s economic viability and is part of FDOT’s Strategic Intermodal System.

The project will include full design services, including roadway and urban interchange design, stormwater design and permitting, utilities coordination, structural steel bridge design, signal design, intelligent transportation system implementation, and public involvement services. As the lead design firm, HDR will also compile the construction documents for inclusion of an adjacent 1.44-mile segment of U.S. 19 that will be designed by other firms.

Notice-to-proceed is expected this month and the current design schedule is 30 months.
