SAN FRANCISCO — As more and more bridges are declared structurally deficient or obsolete, there is a need for immediate and novel engineering solutions in order to be well prepared for potential disasters and minimize future maintenance costs. Bridges 2010, held in San Francisco, Nov. 16-17, equips its attendees with the information to prevent these disasters.
Conference attendees — including heads of transportation, heads of bridges, heads of structures, project managers, design managers, engineering managers, construction managers, senior consultants, infrastructure managers, asset owners, environmental managers, and risk management — will learn how to deliver projects on time and on budget. Conference workshops include: Outlining the steps taken to ensure a successful design-build program is delivered; Delivering a bridge rehabilitation project and ensuring structural safety through the repair, maintenance, and long-term management of the bridge infrastructure; and delivering environmental approvals for bridge projects. Other sessions include: Providing a status update on the construction of the new San Francisco-Oakland Bay self-anchored suspension bridge; Showcasing best practices of NYC bridge retrofits; Innovative design techniques and building sustainable bridges; and Outlining Parson Brinkerhoff’s unique thermoplastic bridge design.
With tenders being released on a continuous basis and contractors vying for position, it is critical to be up to date with the latest innovations and practices being implemented to remain competitive. Bridges 2010 will give engineers an opportunity to meet the individuals responsible for holding the budgets not only for retrofits, but for major new bridge projects. Coupled with the chance to meet industry leaders in the bridge construction field, attendees could be networking their way to that next successful bid.
