 W. CONSHOHOCKEN, PA. — ASTM International will sponsor a symposium on Pervious Concrete on Dec. 4, 2011, at the Tampa Marriot Waterside in Tampa, Fla. Sponsored by Committee C09 on Concrete and Concrete Aggregates, the symposium will be held in conjunction with the committee’s December standards development meetings.

The symposium is being held to discuss the importance of having testing standards for a segment of the industry that has been placing pervious concrete for over 30 years in the United States. The community of industry professionals now engaged in specifying, designing, testing and installing pervious concrete is so large that appropriate standards are paramount for the industry to keep its momentum. Third party labs, engineers, designers, producers and contractors are the main stakeholders that would benefit from this symposium.

This symposium will provide a forum for presenting data collected on pervious projects relating to fresh concrete properties, hardened properties, durability, permeability and mix design alternatives. Topics that will be presented include, but are not limited to:
• surface durability;
• use and intention of C1701 (ASTM Standard Test Method for Infiltration of In Place
Pervious Concrete) for field permeability;
• density and voids of freshly delivered material;
• use of admixtures to improve pervious attributes; and
• correlations of field cores to C1688 (ASTM Standard Test Method for Density and Void Content of Freshly Mixed Pervious Concrete).

Online registration opens approximately eight weeks before the workshop and closes Nov. 30. The fee to attend for non-ASTM members is $50 for online registration and $75 for onsite registration. There is no fee for ASTM members, presenters, session chairs, and students with a valid ID.
